Insulin injections and diabetic testing are an hourly task for diabetics like myself. Our pancreas shuts down and produces little to no insulin.
For years, I had to inject insulin via syringe several times a day. I now have an insulin pump, and it has been amazing how great my A1Cs have been since getting it. It has helped me through my diabetic pregnancy and diabetic child birth! I now have 3 children and am quite active with running, rock climbing, playing hockey, working out at the gym, etc. My life is generally great, but dealing with insurance companies over diabetes supply disputes, as you might know, isn’t.
I’d like to share more of my information and experiences with you. Please take some time to browse the Diabetes Information and the Diabetes Articles that I have written and collected. You can see those links on the right.
Diabetes, or more properly “diabetes mellitus” is a disease where a person’s pancreas does not properly produce enough insulin or the person’s body does not properly respond to the insulin produced. Insulin is important for converting sugars found in food into the energy that the body needs, so diabetics naturally either don’t produce enough insulin or can’t properly use the insulin that they produce, or both. This can result in excess sugar accumulation in the person’s blood which can have harmful side-effects. In 2009, the American Diabetes Association reported that there are about 23.6 million individuals in the U.S. alone who have diabetes. That is about 7.8% of the country’s population. Of these, about 17.9 million people in the US have been diagnosed as diabetic. If you’re doing the math, that leaves an estimated 5.7 million people that are actually unaware that they have the disease.
It is astounding to me that there are so many people that still don’t know much about diabetes, and that there are so many people that have diabetes and aren’t even aware of it themselves. I think we need to heighten the public’s awareness. I want to assist you in learning about diabetes and be a resource where you can obtain Diabetic Testing and Diabetes Supply help.
